Assassins are tactical, sneaky and dangerous fighters capable of infiltrating enemy positions while quickly and efficiently executing targets. In terms of Assassin skills, the progression concentrates on eliminating targets at the quickest time possible instead of evading or mitigating damage. Increasing an assassin’s accuracy and critical rates can help achieving this goal. However, even without knowing it, assassins can be very slippery and sneaky characters. Their defenses are relatively low, so they’ll need to rely on their excessive dodging and hide skills to avoid enemies and to perform rear attacks. And since they don’t have any effective healing skills, they’ll need to rely on potions and bandages for hit point maintenance.

Like scouts, assassins can equip swords, daggers and bows. The assassin’s weapon of choice will vary for their needs. Swords offer good hit rate but average attack speed and critical rate. Daggers has lower accuracy but have exceptional attack speed and lands critical hits often.

Assassins can still use bows for long-ranged DPS but since their combat skills are more blade-oriented, they won’t be able to efficiently use their skills without using a sword or a dagger. For their armor, they can only rely on leather armors. Light armors rarely provide adequate protection but since assassins can employ cloaking/stealth abilities, they can safely bypass unsuspecting enemies before landing a critical blow.

The passive skills of Assassins are enhanced versions of the Scouts’ and can be improved as their level progresses. Assassins can even use cloaking even while in flight, making it one of the tactical approaches a skilled assassin can employ. Assassins can also apply poisons to their weapons, capable of stunning and poisoning enemies at a fixed rate per attack. Combine it with an assassin’s deadly accuracy and his/her equipped weapon’s attack speed and you’ll have an unstoppable killer at your disposal. Assassins can also “mark” their targets after damaging them by engraving patterns. It works like a stackable chain which can be increased per attack. For example, hitting an enemy will add “one pattern level” to it. Use the skill again and it will increase to “two pattern levels” and so on.

Assassins can also remotely trigger a special attack afterwards, like the Pattern Explosion skill that erases the engraved patterns on a target, damaging and stunning the target. The damage and probability of getting stunned depends on the number of patterns engraved. Assassins also have several stat boosting buffs, making them even more deadlier.

All in all, assassins live up to their class, capable of working behind the shadows and eliminating unsuspecting targets before they even have the time to react. Players that love stealth, espionage and shadowy assassin tactics will surely enjoy playing as an assassin.

Scouts are light warriors that specialize in short swords, daggers and bows. They prefer speed, evasion and agility, making them nimble characters capable of joining the frontline ranks. Speed is traded at a cost of protection since the best gear scouts can wear are leather armors. Scouts can dual wield daggers, swords or a combination of both at an early level. Scouts rely on stealth and flanking manuevers to get the upper hand in battle. They are meant to deal damage at a safe distance or up close without getting too much attention for their targets. Scouts don’t have any good crowd-control skills so it will be a good idea to engage small groups of enemies, especially for low level scouts. When they finally reach ascension, scouts can choose to become Assassins, masters of stealth and efficiently executed attacks or Rangers, masters of bow and traps, capable of dealing huge amounts of damage at long ranges. Details regarding these two subclasses will be discussed on separate articles.

A Scout’s skill tree, like the other three “base” classes or professions is simple. All basic abilities a scout needs should be available to him/her after getting enough levels. They start off with the basic combat skill and evasion buff. At level 3, they’ll be able to execute surprise attacks but it won’t be that effective unless used with the “hide” skill. At level 5, scouts are allowed to dual-wield weapons, enhance their hit rates, use stealth to sneak around enemies and perform a counter-attack after dodging an enemy attack. Employing these skills early on will help aspiring assassins or rangers get the feel of using carefully planned movements and executing surprise attacks to their advantage. Since scouts lack any effective healing skills other than the typical first aid/bandage skill, they will need to rely on food and potions to keep their HP up. Just as scouts reach level 9, they’ll be able to use a passive skill that increases their evasion rate, as well as a combat skill that helps them “focus” to increase their physical damage. So far, scouts can perform two basic chain skills; Swift Edge – Quick Slash or Dodge – Counterslash. When paired with other skills, especially hide and boost accuracy skills, targeted enemies won’t even have that much time to react or defend themselves.

Scouts are meant to take advantage of their surroundings and situations in order to make the most out of it. They may rush in the middle of the battle if needed but their true potential can only be witnessed by launching surprise attacks or taking advantage of stealth to get into optimal position before attacking. Players that would like to use various tactics and strategies to win other than rushing into battle directly would definitely enjoy playing as stealthy and nimble scouts.

Spiritmasters rely on taking control of fierce creatures from four cardinal elements of Earth, Water, Wind and Fire. They can summon these elemental spirits and use them to their advantage. Spiritmasters can only summon one elemental at a time and their versatility lies in the type of spirit/elemental they summon in specific situations. Each elemental has their own strenghts, weaknesses, unique skills and abilities. Earth elementals are made for melee combat. With their high vitality, physical and magical defense, earth elementals can serve as spiritmaster’s personal tanks. Fire spirits have close-ranged, high burst damage with average stats and lower than average magical defense. Water spirits are usually used for healing that has exceptional magical defense but lower than average stats. Wind spirits are primarily used for magical offense, but can be fast melee attackers as well. Elementals undergo four stages of growth. With each stage, they grow larger and fiercer. The spiritmasters’ real strength is only gauged by their abilities to take command of these spirits but how they channel their abilities to make their summoned creatures more powerful and efficient. Spiritmasters can still use spellbooks and orbs as their weapons, and they can only wear robes for their protection.

Spiritmasters can summon their first spirit as early as level 10. Though they can’t use high damaging spells and crowd control abilities, spiritmasters still retain all of the mages’ skills, including the invaluable Stone Skin skill (raises a protective shield for 5 minutes or after absorbing a certain amount of damage). Their passive skills are not that impressive. Aside from the typical stat boost and special effect (increased mana regeneration for instance) during flight, concentration or basic dress skill, spiritmasters has a passive skill that lowers the enemies’ resistance to weakening magic. Aion Spiritmasters can also increase their spirits’ stats and defend themselves with damaging spells with HP siphoning properties. They can also order their spirits to inflict negative status ailments to targets, such as decreasing the enemy’s defense, lower their elemental resistance or stagger them. While lacking long-ranged burst and nuking spells of sorcerers, spiritmasters can still bind and restrict enemy movement if ever they feel threatened or if ever enemies get too close. As spiritmasters increase in level, they gain access to even more devastating and powerful support spells that can make their summoned spirits unstoppable. Spirits can also perform the function of a remote chanter, though spiritmasters simply channel chant-like skills to the spirits. The best example for this are the Wall of Protection skills available at level 34. For example, when Wall of Protection: Fire is active, all party members within a 15m radius of the spirit can reflect a small amount of damage when attacked and also increases their physical attack by a certain percentage. These bonuses not only enhance the party’s offensive capabilities, but they also have another party member to help in the offensive, in the form of the spiritmaster’s elemental summon.

Spiritmasters are one of the most complex classes in the world of Aion and their greatest strength lies on what and when to summon the correct spirits at the right time.

Sorcerers are masters of elemental damage. They are the ultimate form of mages, in terms of damage capabilities and crowd control. However, sorcerers are still fragile characters – limited on using cloth armors only. Because of this, they are amply named as “glass cannons” or characters capable of dishing high damage output but have very low survivability. Sorcerers can only use spellbooks and orbs as their weapons. Since they have low amount of hit points and very little defense against attacks, sorcerers can perform their best if protected by sturdier allies like warriors and priests. Sorcerers rely on heavy, long distance damage. If ever enemies come close, they can restrain them or put them to sleep. They can also teleport away from danger at a short distance. Sorcerers only have absorption shield buffs that they can rely on for preventing direct damage; however they can’t use it that often, due to average cooldown time. One of the most popular sorcerer tactics devised by sorcerers is snaring/restraining enemies in place then bombarding them with high level and extremely damaging AoE (area-of-effect) spells, preventing any means of escape or even defending themselves. Nasty.

A sorcerer’s skill tree is consisted of offensive spells mostly. Level 10 will open unique divine powers for Elyos and Asmodians, as well as a sleep spell and a passive flight skill. The sorcerer’s defensive skills are even enhanced after reaching level 13, where they can unlock the Dimension Door and Robe of Earth skills. The latter increases MP regeneration, fire and water resist for a good period of time. Sorcerers can’t be micromanaged, unlike the other classes since they need to rely on their massive array of skills in order to survive and win the fight. Sorcerers can turn the tide of battle with their powers. Take them along in a party and players won’t have problems taking on hordes of enemies at once.

Mages are masters of destruction. They can deal massive amounts of long range damage, capable of dealing large AoE (area-of-effect) damage and utilize elemental forces to take down foes. Starting the journey as a low level mage is wrought with danger. Mages start with an ample amount of hit points, not to mention that they can only wear cloth armors. They can only use spellbooks as their weapons. Aside from the their two starting spells, (Fire Bolt I, and Restraint), mages need to purchase additional spells from their Mage Trainer. The mages’ only way of healing would be the generic bandage skill, food or potions. Mages also suffer from slow mana regeneration. Due to their vulnerability, pursuing solo missions while starting as a mage can be challenging and dangerous. Fortunately, monsters in starting areas for fledgling mages won’t easily target them like easy prey. This will give apprentice mages lots of hunting opportunities without drawing huge enemy crowds in the process. Like other basic classes, mages can start their Ascension quest starting level 9 where they gain access to even more powerful spells when they become a Daeva, as well as the chance to become one of the two subclasses available for mages: Sorcerer and Spiritmaster. Sorcerers are elite mages, capable of using nature against foes – a mage can summon fireballs; a sorcerer can create infernos. Spiritmasters have the capability to summon elemental spirits and make them as stalwart companions. Though not as immensely damaging as sorcerers, the spirits under the spiritmasters’ command provide additional protection and distraction making them a bit resilient than sorcerers and mages.

The mage’s skill tree is rather simple. Their only unique passive skill increases concentration. They start with a rooting spell and fire damage. This is needed since mages can’t handle too much damage; rooting an enemy will provide adequate distance or buy mages time to blast them to smithereens. More elemental spells will be unlocked along the way. Conveniently, after reaching LV7, mages will have access to a protective skill called Stone Skin. This will allow them to form a protective shield for 5 minutes and or after absorbing a certain amount of damage. Once mages reach LV9, they’ll have the ability to replenish their lost mana instantaneously with a cooldown of a minute only. The Mages’ combat combos are pretty simple and straightforward; Flame Arrow + Blaze or Ice Chain + Cold Wave are the available chains they have in their arsenal. Only the second chain mentioned has additional effects (Ice Chain – reduces enemy movement for a few seconds, Cold Wave – staggers/ knocks enemies back).

As mentioned, starting as a mage can be challenging and risky. However, once they earned their wings and chosen their specialties, they are definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Chanters rely heavily on fortification magic and auras that benefits all allies in range. Their healing spells acquired from priesthood are still retained, though not as potent compared to clerics. They use the same weapons as clerics (mace, shield, staffs) and the ability to wear chain armors. Though most chanters prefer staffs, the mace and shield combo provides bonus HP and defense, increasing a chanter’s survivability. If an emergency arises, chanters can become medium tanks and fight in the frontlines while providing support and healing at the same time. Chanters are close-combat oriented compared to clerics. With the help of passive skills dedicated to resist damage, knockback, knockdown and stun, chanters live up to their tasks as both frontline fighters and support characters. Exploiting chanter’s skills the right way can get you a very powerful character.

The chanter’s skill tree consists mainly of mantras, combat and healing skills. The chanter’s ability to stack the effects of several mantras at once makes them an invaluable support character to any party. Party members should be within the range of mantras projected by chanters in order to benefit from them. Some mantras increase the party’s stats, increase their morale and some also allow HP/MP recovery (heal-over-time). The range of these mantras can be further increased by unlocking the Boost Mantra Range passive skill. While in flight, chanters can also increase their mantra’s range by 100% by unlocking the corresponding passive skill as well. Chanters are also capable of debuffing or lowering enemy stats when attacking, making them very effective frontline attackers. Starting a chain using these attacks can allow chanters and their allies to deal more damage to the target. Chanters can still heal and revive fallen characters though not as effective as clerics. Chanters’ stigma skills are no different; they can deploy even more powerful chants with the help of stigmas capable of unleashing several effects in one go. Like clerics, chanters can perform these skills in the middle of a fight even while under assault. Chanters do not have a passive skill that reduces threat level unlike clerics; this is because chanters do not need to keep distance from enemies nor do they need to draw too much aggro.

Chanters can change the tide of battle with their support auras and chants. They can also double as a party’s primary melee fighter if ever the situation calls for it. This versatility in the battlefield makes chanters a good choice for players that wanted to act as secondary healers while being able to fight up close without worrying too much. The variety of mantras they can share with other players makes chanters very party-friendly characters though they can pretty much stand alone in solo quests.

Clerics are ultimate healers that have access to the best healing and recovery spells. This versatility makes them one of the most sought-after characters in any group. Clerics can equip maces, staffs and shields. This small variety of weapons provide considerable advantage to clerics. Staffs provide much needed magical and DPS boosts while the mace and shield provides added protection and HP, thus, increasing the cleric’s survivability. As more powerful version of priests, clerics can now wear Chain Armors, providing adequate protection if ever they draw the attention of enemies. Clerics can effectively target enemies using mid-range attacks, and perform a handful of melee skills if ever the targets get near. However, since they’re not natural fighters, clerics will need to distance themselves from an enemy mob, especially if they found themselves drawing the aggro of enemy forces.

Clerics have a magnificent list of healing and offensive skills at their disposal. The have passive skills like healing mastery that increases the potency of healing skills by a certain percentage per level or even lowering threat to avoid getting targeted often. The priest’s basic buffing skills are still present while skills that remove status ailments are also added. However, one of the most notable skills of clerics are their impressive resurrection and recovery spells. These powerful spells can heal/resurrect multiple targets at once, at great distances. Clerics can also summon stationary “servants” that shoot ranged projectiles at the cost of its own HP and even use a skill that will root enemies for a brief period of time; which can be used to keep distance from enemies. The best thing about clerics’ skills are the minimal MP cost for each skill. Clerics won’t need to worry too much about overcasting and spending too much mana – especially if they have unlocked the Meditation/ Refresh Mind skill that slowly regenerates their mana at a cost of some of their HP (which shouldn’t be a problem since healing is a cleric’s specialty after all). This arsenal of very useful skills are even enhanced by having Stigma skills – ranging from skills that lower the casting time of all spells by half, halt mana consumption for a few seconds when casting or even heal every party member in range while giving them the ability to absorb a certain amount of damage for a brief period of time.

When playing as a cleric, players should expect that they’ll normally get invites to join small groups or large parties. Knowing the right cleric strategies and tactics can make the cleric one of the most desirable class when playing in groups. Should they opt to travel alone, clerics should keep their distance and avoid too much time in the frontlines.

Priests are undoubtedly the backbone of any successful party or partnership. They play a major role in keeping the party healthy and casting buffs in between. They can also resurrect fallen allies if needed. Priests are invaluable allies in any party; due to their importance, they may be priority targets of enemy players, especially in PvP fights. Since the best body gear priests can equip are only leather armors, they will definitely need the protection and assistance of their sturdier allies, preferably of the warrior class/sub-class. Priests can use maces and staves as their primary weapons. They are also the only class other than the warriors that can wield shields for additional protection. After reaching level nine, priests are ready to take their ascension quests become Daevas and later on choose to become one of the two subclasses: to become a Chanter or a Cleric. Chanters are support characters that can debuff enemies and buff allies while Clerics are ultimate masters of healing and resurrecting. Both of these subclasses will be discussed in detail on separate articles.

Priests start with two basic spells: one for healing and ranged damage spell. Priests take advantage of this self-sufficiency early on, as well as the the capability to endure continuous combat with very little downtime. As a Priest levels up, more spells are added to their arsenal, such as hp and armor boosting, heal-over-time recovery, resurrection spell and a melee attack capable of slowing down enemy attack speed for a set period of time while causing damage, just to name a few. Starting as a low level priest won’t be that tedious, thanks to good balance of damaging and healing skills. Priests have very basic combat combos, relying mostly in an opener attack (Hallowed Strike for example) followed by a finisher. This is expected; since priests are not primarily built for close combat. The priest skill set is pretty much balanced with healing, buffing and damage skills. A good priest will know how and what skill to use at any given time; would it be an attack that stuns the enemy, followed up by a temporary stat boost or a much needed resurrecting spell.

Priests are one of the most in-demand character classes. Any party would like to have at least a good backup priest in their ranks since most combat scenarios require constant healing. Starting priests can practice healing and supporting fellow players which in turn may potentially accommodate them to their first groups. Priests can handle solo missions but they are most effective when having mutual benefits in a party. Maintaining priests are recommended for average players since healing allies while avoiding getting too damaged themselves require quick reactions and planning. Priests are unarguably an integral member of any party. Efficient priests are very good team-players, working with team mates to ensure victory against hordes of enemies.

Looking for a dedicated tank or meat-shield in the middle of a fight? You don’t need to look further, especially if you have a Templar in your party. Templars are excellent defensive warriors, capable of withstanding enormous amount of punishment while maintaining a balanced offensive capability. They have the ability to heal themselves, use buffs to enhance protection and resistance and even protect a team mate and take all the damage unto themselves. Templars can also effectively cast chants of protection and heal even while under direct assault, making them invaluable allies in the frontlines. They can use swords and maces as their primary weapons (they have the option to wield a two-handed sword as well) and their ever trusty shields on the other hand. Templars and gladiators carry the same gears. The only main difference that since templars are more defense oriented, their weapon choices are limited compared to gladiators.

The Templars’ combat skill tree has a natural mixture of buffs, sword and shield skills. Some of the most notable defensive skills unique to templars include Deity Armor, (recover 25% of max HP, increase max HP by 50%, HP regeneration by 50 for 3min) Double Armor (removes all debuffs, absorbs 50% damage for 30 seconds) and Iron Wall to name a few. Some of the templars most effective combos are counterattacks while their shields are raised and after deflecting an attack. A good example is the Shield Block – Shield Counterattack – Shield Charge combo that not only cancels the aggressor’s attack, but deals damage, stuns and knocks down in return. This will leave the stunned attacker open for your own or your party’s chain attacks. Templars are also good in building threat and aggro, making them very effective in controlling enemy mobs and taking their attention away from the templars’ team mates. While in flight, templars can use a unique passive skill that can increase their stamina and agility by 10 as well their flying speed by a certain percentage. On land, templars are not very mobile characters one of the obvious Templar strategies in this case would be flying, a decision that must be made whenever the situation calls for it.

Being an Aion templar may require above average dedication since players need to know what skill to use and when to use it in order to fight effectively. Being the real tank and all, things can get hairy in a short notice, especially when fighting a huge number of enemies. Templars can very much handle themselves alone but their real strength is displayed in protecting others and fighting in a party.
