if you cannot register to the forums please email me:

Connecting:
The best way to connect is click the chat link at the top and either the first link for an embedded chat applet or the second link for an applet in a new window. If for whatever reason that does not work for you here are a few other java clients that I have enabled:
http://irc.tolkiengateway.net/java/
http://irc.tolkiengateway.net/java2/
http://irc.tolkiengateway.net/java3/
You can utilize these if for whatever reason the forum is down or what not. Furthermore if you use mirc you can click the mirc link after clicking the 'Chat' button or you can type /server -m irc.tolkiengateway.net
If for some reason you are still having trouble, it might be possible that your firewall/network/etc is blocking the 6667 port (this usually occurs at work places and schools). In this case try one of the links below:
http://irc.tolkiengateway.net:81/6666/
http://irc.tolkiengateway.net:81/6697/
If you are still unable to connect I'm working on a new client that should remedy this, so stay tuned.
Chatting
Upon connection to the server you should be forwarded to the #LOTRMMORPG channel. If not, just type "/join #LOTRMMORPG" without the quotes. Feel free to say "hi" or something similar to test it out, most likely you'll get a response but its best to stick around for a little while because sometimes the other users just have the window minimized and need a minute to respond.
The first tip is changing your nickname. Since you should already be logged in as your board name this normally isn't necessary, but if you decide to go watch some tv, sometimes the nice thing to do is to change your nickname to let everyone know you are watching television, to do this just type: "/nick Hyarion|tv" without the quotes, for example. Play around with changing your nicknames, you can do anything /nick IamTheBest.
Registering
Once you have chosen a preferable nickname, hopefully the same one as your board nickname so we can identify you easily, you should register it so no one else can take it and impersonate you if your not logged in. To register simply type:
/msg nickserv register YOURPASSWORD YOUR@EMAIL.COM
Where "YOURPASSWORD" is replaced with your password and "YOUR@EMAIL.COM" is replaced with your email which is used to retrieve your password should you forget it.
Identifying
Once you have registered your nickname you will be required to 'login' everytime you connect to double check that you are really who you say you are. To do this simply type:
/msg nickserv identify YOURPASSWORD
Where "YOURPASSWORD" is your password you used to register with.
Other Tips
To hold a personal conversation with a friend simply double click their name or type /msg YourFriendsName Your Message you want to say.
#LOTRMMORPG is not the only channel on the server, so feel free to join other channels to speak with other Tolkien fans. You are already automatically in #TolkienGateway, so simply click the #TolkienGateway tab below your chat screen next to #LOTRMMORPG, now you are in the #TolkieNGateway window and can chat amongst these people.
To create your own channel simply type /join #ChannelNameHere The "#" is required so do not forget it.
----------
That's about it for now, I'll try and update this frequently and continue to add/edit information. Please let me know if you have any questions.
I think it might be a good idea to choose a day and time every week to hold discussions, this allows everyone to schedule their days around the time and allow for a maximum turnout. Let's try and consider something that would work for most people regardless of the timezones. If we can't all make one specific time we could always hold two discussions a week at varying times so if someone is unable to attend the first one they could always attend the second. Please remember, this does not mean the chat is only open during these times, we are open 24/7/365 and numerous other Tolkien related websites use the server so feel free to stop in at anytime and say hello.
